2018 Female Band Composition Competition Information
Call for Compositions
We are excited to announce the call for scores for the 2018 Female Band Composition Competition. We are looking for band works that are approximately Grade Three level. The aim is to support works that appeal to a wide array of abilities and tastes. Please see below for all of the details.
1) Submissions must:
· be composed by someone who self-identifies as a female composer
· be an original, unpublished composition for band.
Fight for the Right
Fight for the Right is a global commissioning competition for composer and librettist teams to create original music dramas based on themes of women's education. The winning entry in the competition will receive a full mainstage production during Pittsburgh Festival Opera's summer festival in 2019.

The annual Earplay Donald Aird Composers Competition is open to composers of any nationality and any age. Earplay performs the prizewinning piece and presents a cash prize of $1,000 to the winning composer.
You can submit an Aird competition application electronically or by mail. Please send mail if you have questions or comments.

The Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York is hosting an Emerging Composers Competition, open to all unpublished composers under the age of 22 as of July 1, 2018. This national competition has a Choral Division and an Orchestral Division.
Works submitted should be for one of the following ensembles:
A. SATB Youth Choir (high school students)
B. Full Symphony Orchestra (high school students)
DEADLINE: Wednesday, December 20, 2017 (All materials must be received by this date)
The composition should contain an excerpt from the poem ''Orpheus.Eurydice.Hermes'' by Rainer Maria Rilke. In the poem, Orpheus leads his beloved Eurydice in the company of the God Hermes out of the underworld. The plan can only succeed if he doesn't turn around to her. The North Carolina New Music Initiative and the Frequencies new music ensemble announce a call for percussion duets.
In preparation for our February 27, 2018 concert, we welcome submissions, which fit these requirements:
• Percussion duet.
• Any percussion instrumentation is permissible. If you have questions email me directly.
• Any length (compositions 10 minutes or less will take preference).
• Compositions with electronics are permissible.
• Composers may submit more than one score.

Gwyneth Herbert, ex student of Martin’s at Alton College, wowed the MRF Festival ’17 audience with
her Song for Martin from her latest project: Letters I haven’t written. She also became a Patron for MRF’s, joining distinguished composer & educator Howard Skempton.
Gwyneth returns to Alton College on Oct 14th in this FREE two hour practical workshop, exploring different ways of writing for voice and piano.

EtM is committed to resolving the workspace needs of the performing arts community in New York City. Educational and concert platform for new music Kyiv Contemporary Music Days, together with Goethe Institut in Ukraine, is announcing its Third International Masterclasses for composers to be held in Kyiv, Ukraine on December 16-22, 2017.

The Greater Bridgeport Symphony announces a national competition for innovative composers of orchestral music. Because the GBS believes in the future of orchestral music, the winner will premiere his / her composition during a concert conducted by the Symphony’s dynamic maestro, Eric Jacobsen, during the 2018-2019 GBS season at the Klein Auditorium in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Manhattan Choral Ensemble seeks submissions from composers living within 50 miles of New York City of a short (2.5 – 3 minutes) a cappella work for SATB chorus that evokes life in New York City. The work should be a new composition that has not yet been premiered. Works should require approximately three hours of rehearsal to prepare for performance, and should not contain individual solos. • unaccompanied, or with piano accompaniment
• three to eight minutes in length
• written within the last 5 years
